This puts your body in a state of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autophagy">autophagy</a> to promote your body repairing itself on a cellular level. Additionally, many practitioners find this helps them lose weight and, even more importantly, keep it off. This is, for most, a permanent lifestyle change.</p><h3>How Do I Get Started?</h3><p>There are a number of different patterns and strategies that people use. However, we reccomend trying what is called the &quot;16:8 Diet.&quot; Choose an eight-hour window each day, in which you can otherwise eat normally. The rest of the time, you fast. Though it is a &quot;sixteen hour&quot; fast, given you&#x27;re (hopefully) getting eight hours of sleep each night, this cuts it in half.</p><p>There are other, more intense forms of intermittent fasting. There are also milder forms, such as 14:10, where the eating window is lengthened to fourteen hours.
